The Spider-Man: Brand New Day phenomenon also continues in Spain. In line with global figures, the Marvel film delivers another excellent box office in our country with €4,292,612 in gross, raising its total to about €24,810,425 and drawing over 3.3 million spectators in total. These numbers represent a 46% drop compared to its first week, which nonetheless constitutes strong figures.
The Tom Holland movie was, of course, the weekend’s top-grossing film, in a second week that has continued to break international records. By this stage, the film has already surpassed $1.7 billion in worldwide gross, placing it at number 10 on the list of the history’s highest-grossing films.
The question now is how far it will go at the box office, a figure that depends heavily on what the rest of the month has in store and whether the remaining summer competition can still capture audiences. To put things in perspective, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ would need about $1.215 billion more to overtake ‘Avatar’ at the top of the ranking, a tall order but not impossible. What does seem clear is that it will surpass ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ as the top-grossing film in the Spider-Man saga, given that No Way Home earned approximately $1.921 billion.
‘The Odyssey’ continues to demonstrate its excellent staying power
The second place in the ranking remains held by ‘The Odyssey’ with a decline of only 27% compared to last week. With these figures, the film adds €2,181,784 to its total of €25,790,090.
Curiously, in the cumulative tally, Universal’s film has about 50,000 fewer viewers than Spider-Man but has grossed roughly €1 million more. This underscores Christopher Nolan’s success in leaning decisively into the IMAX format, which translates into tickets that are noticeably more expensive and higher revenue per viewer.
Three weekly debuts sneak into the top 10
The rest of the weekend’s box office shows a considerable jump in gross, leaving the remainder of films below one million euros, although three weekly debuts manage to carve out a place in the top 10, something quite uncommon up to now.
The first comes in at third place, and it is ‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’, which earns €645,041. Not bad for a franchise aimed at a tightly defined age group, which does not have the global draw of other animated films.
As for another example, ‘Minions & Monsters’ holds up quite well in fourth place, now six weeks on release. Slowly but surely, the film has accumulated €12,168,030 in gross, adding €280,513 this weekend.
Moana also stays in fifth place. Disney’s film has shown, as it did in the United States, that patience can pay off, and although it remains far from a blockbuster, it has managed to reduce its losses, unlike ‘Supergirl’, which already has a streaming release date. Specifically, ‘Moana’ grossed €229,963.
The second half of the rankings starts with ‘Obsession’, which adds another strong figure in its seventh week. €208,495 more to the total of €8,640,268. Following that, a very similar figure is achieved by ‘Toy Story 5’ in seventh place with €206,977.
Positions 8 and 9 belong to two releases this week. The first is the film ‘Open Water’, which secures €203,416 at its debut. The next goes to the Spanish film ‘The Last Monkey’. The comedy, which had a distribution campaign by Disney, ends up with only €175,980.
The rankings close with the third week of ‘Three Too Many’, which holds up reasonably well and now totals €1,305,694 at the box office.
