‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continues to dominate the U.S. box office for a fifth week in a row, and this marks its fifth week at the top. The Marvel movie pulled in another $22.2 million over the weekend, lifting its domestic total to $891.5 million. There is little doubt that ‘Spider-Man’ will be the year’s box-office leader, especially with the upcoming ‘Avengers’ installment, the only film capable of challenging it, which will split its box office between 2026 and 2027.
The intrigue now is to see how far Brand New Day climbs the all-time box-office list, where it has accumulated 2.332 billion. This means that, this weekend, it surpassed Titanic and the Chinese release Ne Zha 2, and is currently the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time. And watch out, it is within striking distance of Avatar: The Way of Water, sitting just about 2 million behind it, so we should see it reach No. 3 on Monday or Tuesday.
The big question now is whether it will be able to surpass either of the top two in the ranking, where there is already another half a million dollars of distance: currently Avatar is the top-grossing film with 2.923 billion and Avengers: Endgame the second with 2.799 billion. Everything suggests that ‘Brand New Day’ will have a very hard time overtaking these two, given that five weeks have already passed since its release.

Pinchazo de Ridley Scott y gran estreno para ‘Buddy’
The weekend’s fifth place goes to Ridley Scott’s latest film, who at 88 continues to direct. ‘La constelación del perro’, however, flops on its debut with only 8 million dollars in box office despite being released on 3,330 screens. A disappointing start for the film, starring Jacob Elordi, which carries a budget above $70 million.
Especially when compared to the sixth-placed film, the indie horror ‘Buddy’, which debuted on 1,258 screens, almost two-thirds fewer, yet managed to gross 5.363 millions. Clearly, the film’s journey will be closely watched in what is shaping up to be a strong year for horror.
The rest of the top 10 is filled with familiar faces. ‘The End of Oak Street’ adds 4.95 million in its third week to stand in seventh. The film barely reaches 46 million in gross, another notable stumble for the studio.
‘Paw Patrol: Dino Movie’ is eighth with 4.875 million, while ‘The Mutiny’ is ninth, signing 2.75 million. Finally, the Anthony Bourdain biopic, ‘Tony’, closes the top 10 with 2.22 million more for a total of 11 million.
With these figures, the U.S. summer box office closes at $4.444 billion, becoming the best box office since the pandemic and the fourth best in history behind 2013, 2016 and 2015. Solid numbers, though there is still much to accomplish.
