The cancellation of Spider-Noir took fans by surprise, as the series came to a close after a single season of eight episodes. Prime Video indeed chose not to renew the show for a second season, even though the project with Nicolas Cage had secured 11 Emmy nominations, more than any other series on the platform in 2026. In recent hours, the reaction from its lead actor arrived as well (surely surprising). Given the situation, Cage’s words suggest that even those involved did not harbor high hopes for a renewal.
Spider-Noir will not have a second season, but Nicolas Cage does not seem at all disappointed
The actor commented on Prime Video’s decision with a very particular statement that hints that, for him, Spider-Noir does not necessarily require a second season. “For me, one season is perfect,” Cage stated in a note sent to Deadline, explaining that he has already told what he wanted through his version of Spider-Man Noir. He described the character as a “dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man,” adding a cryptic but unmistakably Cage-esque line: “Onwards, upwards, inwards.” The meaning of his message is thus fairly clear: even though the show has been canceled, Cage considers the work done sufficient to tell the story and the version of the character he had in mind.
And now what happens to Spider-Noir?
In the series, Cage plays Ben Reilly, a private investigator in 1930s New York who must confront his past and the identity of the hero he once abandoned. The project as a whole leaned into a noir cinema atmosphere and even offered the possibility of watching the episodes in color or in black and white. Despite the success and the Emmy nominations, Prime Video recently decided to announce the cancellation, also because the story was fairly self-contained. This, however, does not mean that Amazon and Sony intend to halt their collaboration on Marvel characters connected to the Spider-Man universe. According to the latest reports, the two companies would indeed be continuing to develop other projects.
As for Nicolas Cage, however, his adventure as Spider-Noir might not be entirely over: the actor is expected to return to voice the character in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the third and final chapter of Sony Pictures Animation’s Miles Morales animated film trilogy. This could also help explain Cage’s notably serene reaction, which, as the saying goes, he received the news with philosophy and is already looking ahead.
