The story of Spider-Noir ends here. Prime Video has decided not to renew the live-action series starring Nicolas Cage for a second season, a version of Spider-Man that was notably grimmer and more adult on television. The news comes as somewhat unexpected given the solid reception the show enjoyed, yet it seems Sony and Amazon are already planning ahead.
Spider-Noir: The Plot of the Series with Nicolas Cage
Spider-Noir premiered last May with eight installments, debuting first on MGM+ in the United States, before expanding to a global audience and arriving in Italy on Prime Video. The series follows Ben Reilly, portrayed by Cage, a private investigator navigating a 1930s New York City while grappling with his past as a superhero. For Nicolas Cage, Spider-Noir marked a particularly meaningful transition. He embodied an alternate, older incarnation of the hero, set against a 1930s noir-styled New York and infused with a classic film-noir atmosphere. Cage had previously provided the voice for Spider-Man Noir in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Cancellation Despite Success
The cancellation arrives at a notably curious juncture for Spider-Noir. The series racked up an impressive 11 Emmy nominations, becoming Prime Video’s most-nominated project of 2026. Both audience response and critical reception were positive. Despite these accolades, Prime Video opted not to proceed with a second season. Fortunately, the first season wraps up with a reasonably satisfying conclusion and does not leave a plethora of loose ends.
Amazon and Sony: Focusing on Other Things? The Upcoming Projects
According to Deadline, the platform planned to gauge the performance of Spider-Noir before deciding the fate of the other projects developed under the Sony deal. The series, therefore, also served as a kind of test bed for assessing how well Sony’s Marvel Universe characters could translate to television.
However, the show’s cancellation does not spell the end of the collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television. Spider-Noir was only one of several initiatives arising from the agreement to develop series featuring Sony’s Marvel characters. The two companies are continuing to work on multiple projects, and according to Deadline, one of these is close to receiving the green light as a full-fledged series. For the moment, though, the specifics remain tightly under wraps.
