More good news from D23 continues to arrive, Disney’s annual event for unveiling its upcoming projects. They have brought us joy from the Marvel side, and they were not going to fall short with their other flagship franchise. Star Wars keeps expanding its universe for our enjoyment with updates on three of its most anticipated projects, one of them a complete surprise.
The project that has generated the most chatter is Star Wars: Starfighter, the new theatrical release. Director Shawn Levy himself took the stage alongside Ryan Gosling to present a first look at the space adventure we will experience in 2027. In it, we finally learn Gosling’s role, a pilot named Kade, and his encounter with the young actor Flynn Gray, to whom he says, “Didn’t I tell you not to touch anything?” He replies emphasizing that his ship is the fastest there is, and our imaginations take flight as we ponder why Kade might own such a vessel.
The Rebels saga continues
The second major project Lucasfilm has wanted to showcase is the first trailer for the second season of ‘Ahsoka’. Rosario Dawson returns to bring to life the former Grey Jedi on a quest to confront the mortal threat that looms over the reemergence of the Galactic Empire, Grand Admiral Thrawn, portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen. The preview lets us glimpse her struggles with inner conflicts, the large space battles she will wage against all kinds of foes, and her reunion with the characters who starred in ‘Star Wars Rebels’.
Lucasfilm has not given a concrete date in the trailer, but we expect its Disney+ premiere for January 2027, if there are no delays. It will be more than three years after the series originally debuted in 2023, although there were some earlier appearances in ‘The Mandalorian’ that helped set the stage for this adventure.
The road is built with bricks
To close things out and leave a sweet aftertaste, Disney surprised us with one final surprise: a new LEGO animated special. Titled ‘LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian’, it will again recount the early seasons of the series ‘The Mandalorian’ with a touch of humor and parody to enjoy its adventures from a fresh perspective. And they even give us a date for it: it premieres on Disney+ on September 2, 2026.
