Stephen King Is Delighted with ‘Carrie’, the New Amazon Series Based on His Novel

Everyone knows it: there are few masters of terror on the same level as Stephen King. The writer has devoted much of his life to frightening audiences of every kind with his books, covering hundreds of themes, from killer clowns to rabid dogs. But no matter how hard he has tried, he has seldom left satisfied with adaptations of his own works into other media, such as film or television.

Today it seems he brings us a very positive case. The Lord of Fear has spoken about the new miniseries ‘Carrie’, the third attempt to adapt one of his most emotionally intricate novels. And the result appears excellent in King’s eyes, who has raised his arms and declared that this is true cinema. The new Mike Flanagan series earns his endorsement with outstanding marks.

Adapted to Modern Times

King’s words come from his social networks, where he shared his reaction after viewing an early cut of the series. “Mike Flanagan’s take on Carrie is brilliant.” What he says about social media is striking and very true, he asserted. He emphasizes how this new interpretation of the story works in modern times, a notable difference to consider given that fifty years have passed since the original work’s publication.

That does not automatically mean it will be a piece that resonates with every audience. King is often reticent about adaptations of his works, though at times he has given his blessing to some that did not quite connect with the public. Like 1986’s ‘Maximum Overdrive’, a film with which the writer claimed that no other director truly understood him.

The new Carrie miniseries arrives exclusively on Amazon Prime on the forthcoming October 7, 2026. Starring Summer H. Howell, it tells the story of a young woman facing the turmoil of moving from girlhood to adolescence, and, to make matters worse, she endures severe bullying in the town where she lives. All of this is a volatile mix that will explode into a sea of blood, making everyone who knows her name regret not having done something to improve her life.
