The great Susan Sarandon, who this very year appeared in all her beauty on the poster for the Cannes Festival alongside Geena Davis, will be the guest of honor at Alice in the City, the autonomous and parallel section of the Festa del Cinema di Roma, which will take place in the capital at the Ennio Morricone Auditorium Parco della Musica, from October 13 to 25. The actress will accompany the festival, together with director Zach Woods, to present the preview of The Accompanist, a film in the International Competition that will be presented on Tuesday, October 13, on the occasion of the inauguration of Fuori Sala. The Sarandon, moreover, will receive an award, the Womenland Award, which is not only a recognition of her career, but also of “a way of traversing cinema: with freedom, autonomy and with the courage to choose who to be, on screen and off screen, with the willingness to keep changing”.
The Accompanist is Zach Woods’ feature debut, an actor we’ve admired in Silicon Valley and The Office. He is also the screenwriter, and in the cast of the film we also find the young Everly Carganilla, Aubrey Plaza, and Emma Farnell-Watson.
The Accompanist tells the story of Sylvia (Susan Sarandon), who, at 70, becomes an unlikely adoptive mother to Emily, an eight-year-old girl taken from the care of her dementia-stricken grandfather after a nearly fatal accident in New Jersey.
It had been some time since Susan Sarandon last played the lead role in a film. With five Oscar nominations and one win (for Dead Man Walking), the actress has a solid career behind her, spanning several genres and collaborations with some of the most important directors of all time. Those who attended the latest Venice Film Festival admired her in The Echo Chamber by Andrea Pallaoro, in which she starred alongside Alicia Vikander and our Luca Marinelli.
