Two years after the day on which Donald Trump named him his “special ambassador” to Hollywood, alongside Jon Voight and Mel Gibson, the actor has made it known that he never accepted the assignment, or rather that he declined the gracious offer due to the impossibility of dedicating himself to the prestigious mission. In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Sly recounted the beginnings of the venture, saying: “It just happened. One evening I was watching TV and someone was saying: ‘So Stallone, Mel Gibson and Jon Voight will be…’. ‘What?’ I thought. ‘Excuse me, really?’ Because if they had asked me at the start, I would have replied: ‘I simply can’t.’
Stallone then explained why he didn’t think it was a good idea to take on the task: “Because Hollywood is a feudal country. They have their own little realms. You can’t go there and tell six Studios what to do. And Mel Gibson, Jon Voight and I are people who like to think for ourselves.” Sylvester Stallone also recalls the moment when he told the President of the United States that he wouldn’t serve as his ambassador to Hollywood’s Mecca: “I thanked him and said goodbye, because it isn’t something that can be done. Hollywood operates well, and things will evolve. It’s a collection of companies, and the owners of those companies don’t want someone telling them how to handle financial matters.”
Stallone & Co. were chosen as special ambassadors in January 2025, when Donald Trump entrusted Truth Social with the following words:
