Poor data for the Spanish box office at the start of the new season. With 4.49 million euros in weekend gross, it is the third-worst figure so far this year. A clear sign of the weak numbers is that no film managed to surpass one million euros in box office. In fact, not even come close to that figure.
‘Tadeo Jones and the Marvelous Lamp’ adds its third week of leadership at the domestic box office and yet only 624,900 euros in gross. This represents a 36% drop from last week and a total of 6,202,106 euros in accumulated box office. These are good numbers for the Spanish animated film, which has also benefited from the flop of rival premieres to stay on the podium.
Another film that has benefited is ‘The Odyssey’, which posts an excellent second place nine weeks after its release. The Nolan movie continues to be a phenomenon that takes advantage of the low attendance at theaters to remain at the top. It adds just over half a million euros (565,656€) to its total of 37.6 million euros in Spain. Worldwide it already surpasses 1.695 billion dollars in box office, making it the twelfth highest-grossing film in history.
We have to drop to the third place to encounter the main premiere of the week. ‘Practically Magic 2‘ did little to help at the box office. Barely 549,777 euros for the sequel to the 90s film, which, at least, managed to lead the box office in the United States. But here not even that, and note that its drop could be sharper than expected.
The fourth position goes to another summer ranking staple. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continues to make history with a Spanish total that approaches 40 million: €39,364,176. This week, its seventh, the Marvel film added another €490,461. Globally, with $2.455 billion, it remains the third highest-grossing film of all time.
‘The Beloved One’ Maintains Its Strong Hold and ‘Cronos’ Also Surprises
The Rodrigo Sorogoyen film ‘The Beloved One’ had already surprised last week when in its second week it posted a very soft decline at the box office. And this week it does it again with another slight 18% drop, keeping fifth place in its third week. It adds 464,788 euros more for a total of 3,018,062 euros. Still far from the 7.02 million that ‘As Bestas’ grossed in 2022.
Another film that maintains an excellent performance in its second week at the box office is ‘Cronos’, which only falls 23%, keeps a sixth position and manages to exceed the million in gross: 1,263,270€, of which 380,100 correspond to the weekend.
Seventh place goes to ‘Insidious: Out of the Beyond’, which with 365,905 euros continues to bring big joy to Sony, especially for a low-budget film. Less positive is the Spanish release ‘Un plan perfecto’, which does not go beyond 239,471 euros in eighth position.
The ranking closes with the new release of the Oasis concert documentary: ‘Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger’ which barely generated 75,862 euros at the box office. Earlier, ‘The Dog’s Constellation’ managed another 183,831 euros in its third week.
