There’s now also Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on the list of things Taylor Swift has managed to do. The chart-topping singer appeared in a pre-recorded sketch aired during the Emmy Awards 2026 ceremony, alongside the star Mariska Hargitay, who was hosting the event as well. The gag — which you can rewatch below — kicked off when Hargitay asked her SVU colleagues to “think like Swifties” in order to answer the burning question: will Taylor Swift be present at the Emmys? The situation quickly spiraled, giving the adoring audience one of the funniest moments of the night.
Taylor Swift in Law & Order: SVU at the Emmys: what happened?
The presence of Taylor Swift at the Emmys was truly one of the most debated topics on the eve of last night’s ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, given that the pop icon had been nominated for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour – The Final Show. At the Creative Arts Emmys Awards on September 5 and 6, we learned of her defeat, but many wondered whether Swift would honor the year’s biggest event in television with her attendance.
No, unfortunately not. Travis Kelce, the singer-songwriter’s newlywed husband, was busy on the football field for the Kansas City Chiefs’ season-opening game, and she was supposed to be there to support him. Yet, a mystery remains a mystery, and who better than Olivia Benson and the SVU investigators to solve it? In a hilarious clip aired mid-show, Hargitay and colleagues Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, and Peter Scanavino, among others, welcomed a new talent recruit to try to figure out where Taylor Swift could be. That is, Taylor Swift herself!
In the video, the SVU team works to connect fragments of information that are very, very distant from one another. “Let’s start with the Emmy nominations. Abbott Elementary received seven nominations. The sixth season is out this year. Seven and six: add them up,” says Hargitay. “Taylor’s lucky number is 13,” deduces Giddish. “And there are 13 nominations for… DTF St. Louis. St. Louis in Missouri. What else is in Missouri?” asks Hargitay. At that point, Aimee Donna Kelly suggests “Kansas City,” the city where Kelce’s game was played. The team keeps searching for beginnings and forming hypotheses until Swift herself arrives, stylish in a gray suit, to shake things up: “Hey guys, the math doesn’t add up. Our culprit has a precise modus operandi. Many of these clues don’t fit the pattern, and I don’t think this is all a clue.”
The character played by Swift points out that her categories had been relegated to the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony. “Why would she attend tonight’s ceremony?” she asks. “She’ll probably stay home playing with those cats named after the show’s characters.” And here we have the real start, the moment that lets them connect the dots in the right way. Swift is a huge fan of Law & Order: SVU, to the point that she owns a cat named Olivia. “The answer has been TV all this time, because there’s a game going on!” declares Hargitay as she steps closer to her, with the iconic dun-dun sound of Law & Order heard in the background. “It’s fantastic when that sound plays,” exclaims the actress. “Actually, it’s my ringtone,” Swift admits.
