Netflix is making a very bold move in the realm of true crime to bring us something soon. The platform has released the trailer for ‘Unabomber’, a feature film based on the life of the terrorist Ted Kaczynski. The movie will be available on the platform for all subscribers in the near future, starting on September 25, 2026.
The trailer already presents the conflict surrounding the activist, who was hunted by the United States FBI over several decades until he was finally located and formally arrested in 1994. The production has shown no hesitation in assembling a powerhouse cast, with Russell Crowe as one of the professors who would inspire the killer, portrayed by a young Jacob Tremblay.
The True Crime Problem
The trailer has not gone unheard by audiences. While it has drawn the attention of many true crime fans eager to learn more about these kinds of historical events, it has also attracted those who have suffered from them in one way or another. This is the case with Jonathan Epstein, the son of one of the victims whom Kaczynski gravely affected. His father’s name was Charles Epstein, who was seriously injured in a 1993 attack.
Epstein has accused the platform, in media outlets, of, among other things, deceiving the public. He asserts that what has been shown of the film so far takes too many liberties and invents “things” to add drama to the story and attract a larger audience. Along with this, he accuses it of normalizing terrorism and downplaying its seriousness in an already tumultuous and problematic era.
A Train Without a Stop
With or without Epstein’s approval, the truth is that true crime is fashionable among audiences across all available streaming platforms. People want to know more about crimes committed against humanity, and when morbid details can be added, they even prefer it. In Spain, we will soon see the adaptation of Marta del Castillo’s case, which resonated strongly in the Spanish press for a long time due to her mysterious disappearance and the tragedy that followed.
