The fourth season of Ted Lasso has introduced new characters who come into direct contact with the beloved American coach, returning to the United Kingdom after accepting a new job offer from Rebecca that involved a new experience: a new team, but a women’s team. The package also included Alice Chilton, played by Tanya Reynolds, an actress best known for her role in Sex Education on Netflix, who, in the second episode of the fourth season, gave Rebecca a run for her money. But why does there seem to be bad blood between them?
Ted Lasso 4, Tanya Reynolds explains why Rebecca and Alice clash and whether their relationship will change in the future
Already mentioned in the first episode of the fourth season, Alice Chilton makes her debut in the second episode. Rebecca had already discussed it with Higgins, considering her as a plan B, in case Ted did not accept her proposal. “The coach Chilton? I don’t think she likes me very much,” this is Rebecca’s remark to Higgins, who tried to reassure her by explaining: “It’s not your fault, I think she doesn’t like anyone.” In the second episode the evidence arrived that Rebecca was, all in all, right.
Alice is not happy with Rebecca’s decision to hire a man as coach of the women’s team, without considering her candidacy or that of any other woman for the role, and she confronts her fearlessly, plunging Rebecca into a sea of doubts. Alice then doubles down by announcing she will resign at the end of the week, asking for a letter of recommendation. Just before the deadline, Rebecca visits Alice defending herself from the accusations and, to her surprise, discovers that Alice has changed her mind: she has decided that she will be Ted Lasso’s assistant coach. A news that should reassure her and Rebecca tries to feign enthusiasm, but Alice knows that it’s not the case. Why is there so much tension between them?
