Airing for many years and recently returning with a revival season streaming on Disney+, Scrubs – Doctors at the Front Lines is a comedy highly valued by the small-screen audience, which season after season has drawn in numerous stars offering them intriguing cameos. Some of them quickly surprised even Zach Braff, who years later admitted that several actors involved in certain episodes made the impossible seem possible in his eyes. Who are they?
Scrubs, the cast names the guest stars they appreciated the most throughout the seasons
According to Zach Braff, no fewer than four stars left a mark at the Sacred Heart Hospital of Scrubs precisely because, in his view, they were the most unexpected. Alongside colleagues Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison, they reflected on the show’s past and on all the most memorable appearances. Four, to be precise, captured their hearts. In a chat with People, Braff revealed that an actor he never would have imagined seeing in the comedy is Brendan Fraser. “An outstanding actor. I never would have imagined him performing in Scrubs. His performance, especially the one with John C. McGinley, was truly magical,” he recalled. Brendan Fraser, the beloved star of The Mummy, appeared in three episodes of Scrubs portraying Ben Sullivan, a friend and brother-in-law of Dr. Cox who is ultimately revealed to have died long ago. Cox, unable to accept his death, revived his memory through hallucinations.
Over the years, other stars secured cameos in the hospital-set sitcom. Sarah Chalke, for instance, cited Michael J. Fox: “I grew up watching him. I couldn’t believe his physical comedy, his overall humor, everything.” The actress also named John Ritter, who played the father of Dr. Dorian: “He was so good and funny; he made all of us laugh. We felt really lucky to have him there with us, and yet he emanated positive vibes, showing us that he was grateful to be there.”
Donald Faison, meanwhile, chose Tara Reid, describing her as “one of our funniest guest stars. The way everyone reacted to Tara Reid’s character and how everyone wanted to be with her, I think it was quite funny.” A slew of guest stars joined the Bill Lawrence–created series, including Ryan Reynolds, Matthew Perry, Mandy Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Elizabeth Banks, Colin Farrell and Jason Bateman.
