If there’s anyone who has always made us laugh by telling our Italian quirks with sincerity, irreverence, and without mincing words through shows that have become part of history, it’s this brilliant, slightly crazy collective formed by Marco Santin, Giorgio Gherarducci, and Carlo Taranto, known as Gialappa’s Band. For a long time we only heard their voices, even on the big screen, before they decided to reveal themselves. And after an autobiographical book and the success of the recent Gialappa Show, The Absurd Story of Gialappa’s Band is the documentary dedicated to them, directed by Walter Veltroni, always a fan and supporter, so much so that he wrote the foreword to their book. And to remember how we have changed.” Forty years after their debut on the airwaves of Radio Popolare, the Gialappa’s Band retraces its professional history in a film directed by Walter Veltroni. With his keen and original perspective, the director traverses four decades of comedy, inventions, and irony, recounting the trajectory of Giorgio Gherarducci, Marco Santin, and Carlo Taranto, three absolute protagonists who revolutionized the language of entertainment in our country. At the heart of the narrative is also the bond between Giorgio, Marco, and Carlo: a complicity born at the radio microphones and, over the years, the hallmark of a form of humor capable of playing with television codes, overturning them and embracing their absurdity, transforming reality into an extraordinary repertoire of characters, situations, and laughter. “The Absurd Story of Gialappa’s Band” explores the creative universe of Gialappa’s Band and the mark left by a unique comedic style, capable of crossing generations and becoming an integral part of Italian popular culture.
