The Awakening of Boiúna Trailer: Beware the Giant Serpent

When we first unveiled the official trailer, we described the film as “like Anaconda, but in a serious and XXL version,” and in a sense we now reaffirm that assessment. Now the film in question, The Awakening of Boiúna, is slated to arrive in Italian theaters on November 26, distributed by Vertice 360.
The plot of the film, in fact, tells the story of a group of young doctors committed to delivering healthcare to the most hard-to-reach villages along the Amazon River and its tributaries. When their mission leads them into the heart of the jungle, what began as a humanitarian journey becomes a desperate fight for survival. Amid unexpected dangers and a nature as captivating as it is hostile, the protagonists will soon discover they are not alone. Dominating this extreme environment is, in fact, Boiúna, a name traditionally associated in South America with the mythic figure of a gigantic serpent, among the most evocative creatures in the region’s folklore. The film starts from this legend to imagine the survival, in the present, of a huge predator akin to those that millions of years ago inhabited that part of the planet.
The Awakening of Boiúna, which opened the Fantastic Film Fest 2026, was written and directed by Mike P. Nelson, who directed the reboot of Wrong Turn and the remake of the slasher Silent Night, Deadly Night. Leading the film’s cast is Kiana Madeira, already the star of Netflix’s horror trilogy Fear Street, based on the series of novels by R.L. Stine, here joined by Jessica Rothe, famous for the successful Happy Death Day franchise, and Logan Marshall-Green, who previously appeared in Prometheus and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
