The City of the Living as the Protagonist in Venice: Interview with the Director and Protagonists

An interrupted coming-of-age tale. This is how director Edoardo Gabbriellini defines his cinematic adaptation of The City of the Living. Nicola Lagioia‘s novel has become a film of considerable scope about the events before and after the horrific death of Luca Varani. A film about life, more than about death, without seeking social pontifications, simply the everyday life of a boy in search of his own space, the love for his girlfriend, two parents who love him and do what they can.

Premiered today in the Horizons section at Venice, The City of the Living will soon arrive in cinemas, on October 1, distributed by Eagle Pictures. We discussed it below in two video interviews with Edoardo Gabbriellini and the author of the book, Nicola Lagioia, and with the protagonists, Emanuele Maria Di Stefano, Gaia Merlonghi and Valerio Mastandrea.
