The Echo Chamber: Official Trailer for Andrea Pallaoro’s Film in Competition at the Venice Film Festival

One of the most eagerly anticipated Italian competition films at the upcoming 83rd Venice Film Festival is certainly The Echo Chamber, based on the final screenplay written before Bernardo Bertolucci’s death. We now present the film’s official trailer, directed by Andrea Pallaoro and starring Luca Marinelli, Alicia Vikander, and Susan Sarandon, which after its festival premiere will hit theaters from September 10 via 01 Distribution.

The film is Bertolucci’s last screenplay, written with Ilaria Bernardini and Ludovica Rampoldi. It is an Italian-Belgian co-production Indigo Film with Rai Cinema for Italy and Versus Production for Belgium, and is produced by Nicola Giuliano, Francesca Cima, Carlotta Calori, Viola Prestieri, with coproduction by Jacques-Henri Bronckart and Tatjana Kozar. The cinematography is by Diego García, the editing by Paola Freddi, the production design by Gaspare De Pascali, the costumes by Antonella Cannarozzi, the live sound by Guilhem Donzel, and the songs and original music by Clément Ducol, who won an Academy Award for Best Original Song with the track El Mal from the film Emilia Pérez.

The Echo Chamber tells a love story in which the borders between presence and absence, care and dependency, desire and control blur until they dissolve. Leo and Anne chase one another, brush past each other, get lost, and search for one another. They cannot part from each other nor free themselves. Among the rooms, Ava’s voice resounds, crossing time and bringing to the surface what resists, or what can no longer be held.
