It seems the fate of Daredevil: Rebirth had already been sealed long ago. Only a few weeks ago the audience had to swallow the bitter pill served by Marvel Studios, when it was reported that the third season dedicated to the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen would also be the last. Now, after some time, another behind-the-scenes detail has emerged that would shed a whole new light on the matter: according to the head of Marvel Television Brad Winderbaum, this decision was made many years ago.
Daredevil: Rinascita, il produttore chiarisce perché non andrà oltre la terza stagione: la decisione risale ad anni fa
It isn’t easy to accept the cancellation of a highly regarded TV series like Daredevil: Rebirth, especially after the rollercoaster this story has ridden in the past, halted after three seasons during its Netflix-era streaming. Years later, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen has returned on Disney+, yet it is said to follow the same fate, and it doesn’t seem to be a mere coincidence.
Brad Winderbaum spoke further on the matter. As Screen Rant reports, the Marvel Television executive explained the various reasons that pushed the Studios toward this bitter course: “The idea has always been to craft a third season, to culminate it with three installments because, as we envisioned it, the original series comprises three seasons, Rebirth comprises three seasons… a bit like bound volumes, collections you can display on a bookshelf as two three-volume box sets each, then pause to catch our breath and decide what the character’s future will be.”
From the producer’s words emerges a hard truth: the show’s conclusion should not be construed as a cancellation, but rather as a planned finale. According to Brad Winderbaum, another important factor is the viewing figures. Referencing the fan campaign to save Daredevil, he admitted: “Save Daredevil is fantastic, but we need also #WatchDaredevil. The most important lever I have… are the actual viewing numbers. That’s what people are seeking. It’s from there that I draw the power to make something happen or not.” The third and final season is coming to Disney+ in March 2027.
