With the start of filming in the United Kingdom and in Morocco, Netflix has unveiled the lineup for the third season of its successful series The Gentlemen, detailing in particular the actors and actresses who have joined the leads Theo James and Kaya Scodelario and those who have left the cast. Among the numerous new entries, the names of two cinema icons stand out, both known and beloved for their past roles in The Lord of the Rings: Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood. The speculation about the involvement of the former actress and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has definitively faded, meanwhile, as had been persistently rumored in the previous weeks.
The Gentlemen: The Plot of Season 3
In the upcoming season of the crime drama, which will run for eight more episodes, Eddie (James) and Susie (Scodelario) will undertake their boldest project yet: building a casino in the Middle East. But with danger lurking around every corner, has the Duke’s unbridled ambition perhaps gone too far? Below you can watch a behind-the-scenes video shot in Morocco, with the two leads sharing a cup of tea in the desert.
“The ambition of The Gentlemen has grown, the world has expanded and the consequences have a substantial weight,” stated the creator and director Guy Ritchie. “A third season seemed inevitable and I can’t wait to push the boundaries of this story even further.” The screenwriter and executive producer Matthew Read added that, after the last shot of the second season, fans wondered about the fate of Eddie’s soul. “I hope the question is more: ‘What is he capable of now?’. Has he gone mad, or is he becoming a leader – a ruthless leader – capable of performing extraordinary feats?”.
The New Additions to the Cast and the Departures
Details about the characters entrusted to Bloom and Wood are not yet known. Joining them in the cast are also Robert Carlyle (Once Upon a Time), Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle – The Courage of Madness), Bruna Marquezine (Blue Beetle), Ed Speleers (Downton Abbey), Saffron Burrows (You) and Bugzy Malone. The latter had also appeared in the 2019 film on which the series is a spin-off, playing the role of Ernie.
There will also be two heavy absences: Daniel Ings, who played Lord Frederick ‘Freddy’ Horniman, Eddie’s unruly brother, and Giancarlo Esposito, the face of the elegant American billionaire and drug lord Stanley Johnston. Last time, Freddy had been forced by an enraged Eddie to decapitate John Dixon, as punishment for helping provoke the explosion of the airplane in which Bella, the Duke’s newlywed wife, lost her life. Stanley, instead, had been arrested because of his illicit trafficking.
