It took a few days of adjustment, but Eddie Horniman is now officially the king of Netflix’s series. In its second week of availability, from September 7 to September 13, 2026, The Gentlemen was the most-watched title among all series on the streaming service. With 9.9 million views, the second season posted a 48% jump from the previous week (when views were 6.7 million, 45% fewer than its 2024 debut), climbing from third to the top spot in the overall Top 10. This suggests the audience keeps returning to the series, and a similarly positive sign comes from the fact that many viewers are watching or re-watching the inaugural season before possibly starting the second, as evidenced by the 5.5 million views that propelled it into the top three of the chart.
Created and directed by Guy Ritchie, The Gentlemen, already renewed by Netflix for a third season, follows Theo James in the role of Edward Horniman, once involved in United Nations peacekeeping operations, and now surprised to inherit the substantial countryside estate and the title Duke of Halstead from his recently deceased father. He soon discovers, however, that behind such wealth lies a clandestine empire built on cannabis trafficking, and many unsavory figures from the British criminal underworld who seek a share of the business. Determined to free his family from this grip, Eddie tries to outmaneuver the gangsters on their own turf, but ends up realizing that the world of crime doesn’t displease him all that much.
Earlier in the year, Bloomberg drew attention to the notable decline in viewership between the first and second seasons of many Netflix original series, including the most famous ones. Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of the platform, minimized the scope of the news, saying: “Our second seasons are delivering results in line with expectations. We often observe a drop when moving from the first to the second season. It’s a common phenomenon in the industry, but it’s even more so in our case, since we launch series with strong initial resonance. This year, the drop seen in second seasons is actually slightly lower than last year, so there will be no changes in distribution strategies.” Clearly, each series has its own story, as demonstrated by the recent cancellation of Ransom Canyon, whose second season registered a 43% drop in viewership in its first week, remaining weak in the weeks that followed.
