The Gentlemen: Underwhelming Return as Season 2 Viewership Plummets

Another Netflix hit series registers a noticeable dip in audience engagement upon its return with the second season. This time it’s The Gentlemen, whose new episodes drew in 6.7 million views in the first week of availability. Not only did the British crime dramedy fail to clinch the top spot in the Top 10 most-watched English-language shows from August 31 to September 6, landing in third place instead, but compared to its 2024 debut it shows a 45% drop in audience. This, however, should not alarm fans, since the series has already been greenlit for a third season. Moreover, the reinstatement of the inaugural cycle to the chart, with 3.2 million views, bodes well for an improvement in these numbers in the weeks to come.

While the overall number one is occupied by a true crime docuseries— a genre that continues to prove very strong on the platform— the soap opera Beauty in Black was once again the most-watched show of the week. It added another 8 million views after the 13 million racked up in the inaugural week. As expected, the figures for the fifth and final season of the teen drama Outer Banks continue to fall (3.3 million in the third week, down 55%). Meanwhile, the most-watched non-English language series was the South Korean Mousetrap: Stolen Identity, with 4.4 million views. The thriller follows a writer who forms a cruel bond with a loan shark in order to hunt a shadowy figure known as “the Mouse.”
