The Hunting Wives: From Snubbed Series to Netflix Phenomenon, Season 3 Confirmed

Television on the small screen is that wonderful place where a series teetering on oblivion ends up becoming a phenomenon elsewhere, earning notable accolades. We are talking about The Hunting Wives, the mystery drama starring Brittany Snow and Malin Åkerman, known in Italy under the title Nido di vipere, recently renewed by Netflix for a third season, ahead of the debut of the second at the end of next month.

The Hunting Wives Will Continue with a Third Season

Initially conceived for Starz as a miniseries, officially ordered and then shelved before airing, The Hunting Wives had been saved by Netflix; an acquisition that proved providential. The series enjoyed notable audience success, quickly earning the green light for production of a second batch of episodes, available from November 26. Now renewed for a third season, accompanied by these words from the creator and showrunner Rebecca Cutter: “I’m thrilled to return to Maple Brook. I assure you that once the second season is finished, you won’t be able to wait to see what happens next. Get ready, because the third season will be even more scandalous and twisted.”

The protagonist of The Hunting Wives is Sophie O’Neil (Snow), a woman from Massachusetts who relocates with her husband and family to East Texas. The environment is completely different from what she’s used to, and Sophie struggles to fit in at first. Then she meets Margo Banks (Åkerman), a wealthy and captivating local socialite, leader of a group of women. Margo exerts a very strong attraction on Sophie and gradually drags her into a world made of seduction, sex, parties, secrets, power, and transgression. The problem is that behind the gilded façade of this Texan elite lies something much darker: a murder. Sophie thus finds herself increasingly entangled in a web of relationships and secrets from which it’s hard to get out.

Although initially available only in the United States, the first season spent five weeks in the Top 10 of Netflix’s English-language shows with the greatest viewership, reaching second place during the second week of availability. Given the success achieved, Netflix signed an agreement with Lionsgate enabling it to acquire rights for most international markets. The reception here was also warm, entering the Top 10 in 40 countries and reaching the first position in 10 of them, including the United States itself.
