The Lowdown 2: Ethan Hawke Dazzles in Official Trailer for Season 2

If there’s a series you probably haven’t seen yet and should catch up on before its second season lands, it’s The Lowdown. The acclaimed FX series created by Sterlin Harjo, who previously gave us Reservation Dogs, is returning with a new mystery and Ethan Hawke once again unleashed in the role of the stubborn “truthstorian” Lee Raybon. The second season will debut on October 14, 2026 in the United States, on FX and Hulu, and will soon arrive in Italy on Disney+. In the meantime, the official trailer affords us a first glimpse of what lies ahead for Lee: two murders, a sheriff’s department that seems to harbor plenty of skeletons in its closet, and a case that, according to the protagonist, “reaches the heights of power.”

The Plot of The Lowdown 2: A New Case for Lee Raybon

The trailer presents Lee Raybon in what appears to be a somewhat steadier situation than before, but that calm is unlikely to last for long. The lead is drawn into a fresh investigation that pits him against two confirmed murders and an entire sheriff’s department, in a case that, as Lee himself hints, could reach the highest echelons of power. The pull into the affair comes from Ginger, played by newcomer (G.L.O.W.), a lawyer grappling with a mystery surrounding one of her clients. When one of her clients disappears from the state penitentiary, Ginger turns to Lee, launching a new pursuit of the truth.

New Cast Additions: Tommy Lee Jones Is Lee’s Father

For Lee, of course, the case won’t be the only source of trouble. Among the major novelties of the second season is the arrival of Tommy Lee Jones, who portrays Lee Raybon Sr., the long-absent father of the protagonist. His comeback promises to shake things up, especially given that Lee had told his daughter Francis that he had lost his father many years earlier. In the trailer, Lee Senior steps in wearing a distinctive red baseball cap. The father-son relationship will thus intertwine with the main investigation.

Another significant addition to the cast, as mentioned, is Betty Gilpin in the role of Ginger, a sharp and spirited woman who, it seems, will share with Lee much more than a single case to crack. Returning for the second season are Keith David, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kaniehtiio Horn, Rafael Casal and Michael Hitchcock, while among the newcomers are Austin Amelio, Martha Plimpton and Clifton Collins Jr..

What Happened in the First Season? The Summary

In the first season, Lee Raybon sought to shed light on the mysterious death of Dale Washberg, portrayed by Tim Blake Nelson. After publishing an explosive investigation into the powerful Washberg family, Lee began to doubt the official version of Dale’s death, recorded as a suspected suicide. Following the clues left by the man, the protagonist descended into a web of secrecy and corruption. His obsession with the truth forced him to put himself at risk, facing increasingly dangerous situations. The second season therefore changes the mystery and investigative setting, but maintains the pattern centered on Lee and his stubborn resolve to uncover what lies behind the official renditions of events.
