The anticipation is shortening for The New Misadventures of Cliff Booth, the sequel/spin-off to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, written by Quentin Tarantino, directed by David Fincher, and featuring Brad Pitt. If that trio isn’t enough for you, know that a duo of composers has joined the crew, typically magnetically drawn to Fincher’s projects. Some may have already guessed: the music you’ll hear will bear the signatures of Oscar winners Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. Looking back, who would have bet against it? In theaters from November 26.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to Score The New Misadventures of Cliff Booth
The score for The New Misadventures of Cliff Booth will mark the sixth collaboration between director David Fincher and the composing duo Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, who also began their definitive journey into film music with The Social Network (2010), earning an Oscar. There’s plenty here to keep Fincher—a steady mentor on the big screen—on your radar, because Reznor and Ross—as we know—are also the band Nine Inch Nails, active since 1988. It’s worth noting that The Social Network represented the duo’s first fully cohesive soundtrack, but previously Reznor had already worked on producing film soundtracks, starting with Natural Born Killers in 1994 (and Nine Inch Nails even wrote and performed visionary tracks for the Id Software video game Quake in 1996, but that’s another story). For Fincher, the duo has also scored Millennium — Men Who Hate Women, Gone Girl, Mank, and The Killer.
A curiosity: the second Oscar of Ross & Reznor’s film career did not arrive for a Fincher film, but for their remarkable work on Soul for Pixar, directed by Pete Docter.
