If you loved The Other Bennet Sister – Pride and Redemption, the period drama that, inspired by the world of Jane Austen’s cult novel Pride and Prejudice, spotlighted Mary Bennet, the “forgotten sister,” you’ll still feel butterflies in your stomach for that finale, as well as the sense that it all ended too soon. Fortunately, it isn’t really over. Following the tradition of the finest and most beloved British series, in the coming weeks a three-part Christmas special will be available, in Italy exclusively on Sky and streaming only on NOW, for which the first official photos have been released.
The Other Bennet Sister Christmas Special: What We Know
The preview offers a glimpse into how Mary (played by Ella Bruccoleri) is adjusting to married life with Tom Hayward (Dónal Finn). After accepting Tom’s proposal and tying the knot, Mary finds herself facing a new phase of her life. But with marriage comes a new identity: who will she become in the role of Mrs. Hayward? Just as Mary begins this new chapter, an unexpected visitor from her past arrives at her door, asking for help.
The filming of the special, composed of three 30-minute episodes, recently wrapped in Wales. In addition to Bruccoleri and Finn, we will see Ruth Jones reprising her role as Mrs. Bennet, Tanya Reynolds as Caroline Bingley, Laurie Davidson as Mr. Ryder, Poppy Gilbert as Lizzie Darcy, Maddie Close as Jane Bingley, Grace Hogg-Robinson as Lydia Wickham, and Molly Wright as Kitty Buncock. The cast has since been joined by Nerys Amber Stocks, in the role of Lucy, the housekeeper for the Hayward household.
“The idea is to tell what Jane Austen usually leaves off-screen, namely life after the wedding,” said executive producer Jane Tranter in an interview with IndieWire. She added that marriage doesn’t necessarily mean that everything from then on is rosy and sunny; it can also become “marriage and unhappiness.” The key question is whether Mary, who has spent her entire life trying to find her place in the world, will manage to preserve her identity even within marriage.
