Filming for The Rubber Mouse will begin on October 11, the new film written and directed by Matteo Pilati, produced by Rufus Film in collaboration with OndaFILM and with the support of the Municipality of Pieve di Cento, where the shooting will take place. The film, a drama with bittersweet comic overtones, follows the story of Gabriele, a thirty-something from Emilia who—in order to obtain the entire inheritance of a distant relative—returns to his hometown to persuade his father to sign a document waiving his share. But he must act quickly, because the father—a difficult man with whom Gabriele has cut ties for years—is the main suspect in a brutal murder, is at the center of a media case, and could be arrested at any moment. The Bologna-born Romano Reggiani plays the protagonist Gabriele. Also in the cast are Camilla Semino Favro (1993, Your Honor), Alice Angelica, Eleonora Romandini, Francesco Cavallo and Eduardo Valdarnini.
Like the lead, so too for Pilati—born in San Pietro in Casale, in the province of Bologna—this film represents a return to his homeland, after having set his previous works in Rome and along the southern coast of Sicily. “This film wants to be a reflection on how much we tend to deceive ourselves and to manipulate others—in family relationships, interpersonal ones, but even in judicial investigations—rather than face an unpleasant truth,” declares the author of the film. The cinematography of the film is by Yuri Santurri (The Nameless Ballad), the editing by Marco Signoretti (Piano piano, Je so’ pazzo), the production design by Marco Scarpa (Nina dei lupi, Tornando a Est), the original music—reworked from the opera Risurrezione by Franco Alfano—by Marco Sabiu (We Are the Thousand: The Incredible Story of Rockin’1000).
