One of the brightest and most acclaimed British series of recent years, Black Mirror tells, through standalone episodes, how technology could change – and complicate – people’s lives. Created by Charlie Brooker, whose eighth season on Netflix is highly anticipated, it is the latest “target” of the irreverent wit of the famous animated series The Simpsons, which has parodied it in a new exclusive Disney+ special episode releasing tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26. Titled appropriately Yellow Mirror, the episode is shown in advance in the following trailer.

In the episode, the Simpson family will struggle to find light amid two dark stories that are as curious as they are quirky. In the first, a faulty lamp will reveal a heartbreaking truth about what Homer believes is reality. In the second, an artificial-intelligence-enabled tablet will befriend Maggie, ultimately taking control of her.
The trailer reveals a flashback to the days when Homer was a student at Springfield High School. When a teenage Homer tells Barney that life as he knew it never existed, his friend replies: “Well, what a pity. The upside is that today is fish sticks day.” It also shows technology turning on the citizens of Springfield, after Marge innocently uses an electronic device to keep Maggie occupied during a night out with the whole family. Or, as Homer puts it, “You’ve found the switch to turn off the baby!”
Yellow Mirror is the third and final Disney+ episode special of The Simpsons this year. It follows Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition, released in June, and Simpsley, available since July. The first, double-length, is a parody of the famous ABC program Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and tells how a fun romantic evening between Homer and Marge goes awry when she discovers that Homer left the children unsupervised, entrusting them only to a camera rather than a babysitter. Frustrated with her imperfect husband, a slightly tipsy Marge indulges in a trilogy of fantasies about a different Homer.
The second tells an alternative tale inspired by The Talented Mr. Ripley in which the penniless con artist Marge Bouvier is sent to Italy to persuade the wealthy and naive Seymour Skinner to return home, only to find herself tempted by the perks of his cushy lifestyle. But there is a big obstacle: Skinner’s sticky and obtuse guest, Homer Simpsley.
