The Spread: New Javier Bardem Series to Stream Exclusively on HBO Max

The future of Javier Bardem remains as bright as ever. The Spanish actor has secured his next project with ‘The Spread’, the new prestige limited series for streaming platforms. HBO Max has acquired the rights after a bidding war in which Netflix, Amazon Prime, Paramount, and Apple TV pushed hard to obtain the production of the project, according to an exclusive Deadline report.

The push to lock in the series makes even more sense not only given the presence of the Oscar-winning Spaniard but also because of the team behind the camera. The production is in his hands, along with the co-creator of the acclaimed ‘Ozark’ Bill Dubuque, Sean Sansiveri and Fifth Season. The direction falls to Matthew Vaughn, director of the Kingsman films.

Master of Finance

The plot of ‘The Spread’ has not dawdled in presenting itself to the masses. Bardem will portray a highly capable billionaire in the finance field, who sets a new challenge for his career: moving the financial market from Wall Street to the other end of the continent, Miami. Such a mission will intersect with the alluring and perilous underworld of the city, associated with endless parties, ruthless mafias and a host of sex.

Noah Greenshner, overseeing the project for Fifth Season, does not stint on praising his production team. “‘The Spread’ is an exciting story of power and ambition, set in the vibrant and glamorous backdrop of Miami. We have assembled an exceptional creative team to capture the energy of this world and this city, and we are thrilled to work with them and with our partners HBO, Makeready and Topic to bring it to life”.

A Secured Future

The deal closure surrounding the project is especially important for Bardem, whose future has seemed at risk due to the controversies in which he has found himself. The actor has publicly advocated for Palestinian freedom on several occasions, which lately raises eyebrows in Hollywood offices. Even so, it does not seem to have impacted the opportunities available to him for the future, as he always has a project in the works.
