To the delight of their numerous fans, Fabrizio Biggio and Francesco Mandelli return to the cinema, once again directed by Enrico Lando, with their most famous characters: I Soliti Idioti – The Involution of the Species, whose filming is currently underway, following the example of directors such as Vanzina and Mel Brooks, and placing Ruggero and Gianluca De Ceglie into different eras and moments in the history of humanity. The screenplay is the work of Biggio and Mandelli with Ferruccio Martini, and the film will hit theaters, though we don’t yet know when, with Vision Distribution.

From prehistory to the great civilizations of the past, the characters of I Soliti Idioti change outfits, roles and centuries, but keep their vices, obsessions, and idiosyncrasies intact: familiar faces immersed each time in worlds completely new. To hold this journey together is the return of Ruggero De Ceglie and Gianluca, father and son once again protagonists, and this time facing something decidedly bigger than themselves: a journey through time. It is from here that an unpredictable path through the centuries takes shape, in which history continually changes its backdrop while one thing remains surprisingly unchanged: human idiocy. The Usual Unknowns – The Involution of the Species thus brings the world of Mandelli and Biggio into a new, broader and openly cinematic dimension: a sequence of eras, settings, costumes and transformations that reinvents the duo’s historic characters without losing their identity and their irreverent language.
