A few days ago, upon the news that The Watcher has returned to production, you might have wondered what fate had befallen Jennifer Coolidge, whose name did not appear among the actors slated to return for season two. A real heartbreaker, considering we’re talking about one of the audience’s most beloved actresses, who in recent years has earned two Emmys for her role in The White Lotus. And now, it has finally been confirmed that she will indeed be part of the cast!
The Watcher: Karen’s Return and Other Details for Season 2
In the first season of the horror series created by the tireless Ryan Murphy together with his frequent collaborator Ian Brennan, Coolidge was part of the regular ensemble in the role of Karen Calhoun, the real estate agent who oversaw the sale of the beautiful house that, as you may recall (or perhaps not, given that four years have passed), nearly destroyed the Brannock family, the buyers. Ambitious and very exuberant, Karen is a friend of Nora, but their relationship becomes increasingly complicated, also due to the threatening letters that the Brannocks begin receiving from someone signing as The Watcher. When the family leaves, Karen ends up moving there herself. But she too discovers firsthand how terrifying that dwelling can be.
While the plot of the new season remains under wraps for the moment, Coolidge will have the chance to reunite with the other confirmed Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale, who portray Nora and Dean Brannock, and with Isabel Gravitt and Margo Martindale, who will return to play Ellie, the couple’s daughter, and the nosy neighbor Mo. Additionally, Murphy and Brennan will helm the series as showrunners.
