The fourth season of The White Lotus is taking shape, with production currently underway in France, and Heather Graham, who is part of the cast of the new episodes, has shared a few more details about the behind-the-scenes work, citing not only the creator Mike White but also a fellow colleague. What can we expect from the new season?
The White Lotus 4, Heather Graham hints at a fully improvised monologue and Chris Messina’s “interesting” character
After Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, the fourth season of The White Lotus moves to France, offering strictly European getaways to the new protagonists. The cast is made up of big- and small-screen stars who, as usual, will deliver fresh misadventures at a luxury resort. In addition to Heather Graham, the fourth season’s cast includes Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Steve Coogan, Laura Dern, Max Greenfield, Ben Kingsley, Vincent Cassel, Alexandra Ludwig and Chris Messina.
Speaking to Collider, Heather Graham offered some additional insight into her experience on The White Lotus, revealing a specific and quirky request from the show’s creator and showrunner. At one point Mike White asked the actress to improvise, and Heather Graham did not hesitate: “One day Mike White told me, ‘Let’s make something up.’ He let me improvise a monologue lasting about 10 minutes for a scene. I thanked him, but I don’t know if it will end up in the final cut; in any case, it was really fun.”
The actress offered no detailed information about the scene in question or the origin of the character’s monologue, partly because it might not be shown to the audience. As an anthology series, The White Lotus presents new locations and seasonal characters each season (though with some nods to the past), and the fourth season’s cast will bring new dynamics set in a wholly French setting. Reflecting on the co-stars she interacted with on set, Heather Graham brought Chris Messina into the conversation: “I haven’t yet had the chance to see everyone’s performances, but I’ve learned to adore working with Chris Messina. He’s a wonderful person and plays a truly interesting character,” she teased.
Although she did not share plot details or the characters involved, The White Lotus will return to HBO Max with a fourth season slated for 2027, and the story will unfold during the famous Cannes Film Festival, following a group of new guests at the luxury resort.
