Tim Burton’s Next Film Co-Written by a Nobel Prize Laureate, Project Confirmed

Klara e il Sole is making a stop at the Rome Film Festival and is the adaptation of the the eponymous novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, Nobel Prize in Literature. Attending the red carpet at the London Film Festival, Kazuo was pursued by Variety with a rumor: is it true that he is writing Tim Burton’s next film? The question was also teased by the presence of Jenna “Wednesday” Ortega, the star of Klara and the Sun, although the latter film is directed by Taika Waititi. Ishiguro has confirmed everything, but what is this collaboration about?

Kazuo Ishiguro confirms his work with Tim Burton for the next film

There isn’t thus only the close collaboration between Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan for Stay Still (in cinema on February 4, 2027); another film is about to be born from the bond between a writer and a director: we are not talking about adaptations, but truly original projects that spring to life from the meeting of two sensibilities. Kazuo Ishiguro has confirmed that he is at work on the next project of Tim Burton, who has just finished shooting the third season of Wednesday with Jenna Ortega, who also stars in Klara e il Sole, in theaters from October 22 and drawn from a book by the Nobel Prize-winning writer. According to chatter around, the story could be set in post-World War II Japan, but Ishiguro’s red-carpet admission isn’t that detailed: “I thought it was a secret! No, he didn’t introduce us to Jenna. Tim lives very close to where I live in North London, I visited him in that his very strange, odd, beautiful house. Really, it looks like a Tim Burton set. We started talking about a project and I wrote an original screenplay. We decided to keep it private, between the two of us, and then take it around. It’s not a war film, from the genre point of view it’s hard to label. It’s a Tim Burton film!“
The last directorial effort by Burton was Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a surprise hit with over $450 million at the box office on a $100 million budget: one of the few revivals that, in our view, stayed true to the spirit of its predecessor (despite a less secure screenplay).
