Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s success is nearly unprecedented. Even being one of the planet’s most popular superheroes, few at Marvel Studios and Sony expected it to surpass the two billion dollars earned in its first weeks at the box office. And it doesn’t look like such success will slow down anytime soon, judging by the latest weekend in theaters.
Someone who seems to have ample reasons to celebrate is its lead actor, Tom Holland. According to reports from various sources, the actor has reached the maximum bonus that Sony would have promised related to box office success. In total, Holland is estimated to pocket a total of one hundred million dollars, far surpassing any other work he has done in his thirty years of life.
Unprecedented Success
According to media reports, the deal Holland would have reached with Sony would have been twenty million dollars in base pay for his performance in the film, double what he received for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ five years ago. However, Holland has ensured that a large portion of his salary depends on several targets linked to the film’s success, the latest of them marked at the mentioned hundred million dollars for surpassing the two-billion-dollar box office milestone.
And that is really just the latest, but there could be more yet. Insiders have added that the Holland deal has no ceiling, meaning the more it grosses beyond those two billion, the more money the actor will receive. If you want more context on Tom Holland’s earnings, his first job as the web-slinger in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ was $250,000.
A Bright Future Awaits
Now that Holland can rest on a more than generous financial cushion, the actor will be able to devote his upcoming years to projects that take his career to the next level. His next film will bring him back to his Broadway dancing roots when he portrays Fred Astaire in a biopic that has Holland excited to allow him, in his own words, “to stop being treated like a teenager”.
