Top Gun 3: Miles Teller Shares Major Update, Who Admires Tom Cruise

Following the success of Top Gun: Maverick, the excitement for a new adventure of Tom Cruise’s character isn’t limited to the 80s fandom; the franchise remains a flagship for the Paramount Skydance stable, which is even more keen now to keep its promise of releasing thirty films in cinemas each year, thanks to the acquisition of Warner Bros. Miles Teller, who in the latest film played the pivotal role of Rooster, Goose’s son, has offered an update on Top Gun 3, during a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel.

Top Gun 3 Has to Happen, and Miles Teller Has a Rough Idea of When

Top Gun 3 will arrive after the cult Top Gun (1986, directed by Tony Scott) and one of the most convincing revivals in recent years, Top Gun: Maverick (2022, directed by Joseph Kosinski). It will come, even if the timelines aren’t certain even for the actors: skipping isn’t an option, given that Maverick grossed a worldwide total of a surprisingly impressive one and a half billion dollars. Miles Teller, who held the symbolic key role of Rooster, the son of the friend Goose whom Pete lost in the skies, has a sense of the wait, which is always entertaining, because it implies more enthusiastic phone calls from Cruise: “It seems to me that Tom said that as the next thing he will drive some race cars, in the Days of Thunder sequel. Then I hope he’ll also want to pilot some airplanes, because we can’t wait. […] Tom is a very kind person; it’s the closest thing to a mentor many of us have had in this industry. He’s always available. I have to hang up the phone in his face, because he’s always so excited, he believes in it a lot.”
If Cruise really shoots Top Gun 3 after Days of Thunder 2, which is slated for 2028 after filming in 2027, realistically we could see the third chapter of the saga in 2029, if they manage to tighten the schedule and head to the set (and into the skies!) for 2028.
