Orlando Bloom will be the recipient, during the 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival, of the Filming Italy Venice Award, conceived and directed by Tiziana Rocca and now in its eighth year. The prize presentation will take place on the Lido di Venezia on September 6. Regarding the award, which is bestowed upon personalities who, through their talent and artistic journey, have made a significant contribution to the growth and international dissemination of cinema and audiovisual media, Rocca stated:

Orlando Bloom rose to fame thanks to two major film franchises: The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean. Regarding the first, where he portrayed the elf Legolas, he appeared in 2001’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, in 2002’s The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and in 2003’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. He inaugurated the second in 2003 by portraying Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, then reprised the role in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Peter Jackson also directed him in two of the three The Hobbit films (The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies).
In the same year he appeared in The Fellowship of the Ring, Bloom collaborated with on Black Hawk Down. The director also cast him in Kingdom of Heaven. Another significant early-2000s film for him was Troy, in which he played Menelaus. Among Bloom’s finest performances we recall Elizabethtown by Cameron Crowe (2005). The actor later distinguished himself in Operation S.M.A.R.T., in Red Right Hand and in the psychological thriller The Cut, where he played the role of a boxer.
The Filming Italy Venice Award supports the fight against violence toward women and is dedicated to all the women who work in the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera.
