Only a few days remain until the start of the 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival, but news continues to pour in. It will be the American Oscar-winning actress Laura Dern (Jay Kelly, Marriage Story, Inland Empire) who will deliver the laudatory speech for George Clooney, as he receives the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the ceremony on Wednesday, September 2, in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema (Lido di Venezia), during the opening night of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, which will begin at 7:00 p.m.
In 2025 Laura Dern appeared in Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, a film in competition at the 82nd Venice Film Festival, with George Clooney in the leading role. Previously, Laura Dern has been present at the Venice International Film Festival several times with Haunted Summer (1988) by Ivan Passer, October Sky (1998) by Joe Johnston, Dr. T and the Women (2000) by Robert Altman, Inland Empire (2006), on the occasion of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement awarded to David Lynch, Marriage Story by Noah Baumbach, for which she later earned the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and most recently with The Son (2022) by Florian Zeller.
