VisionQuest has brought into play numerous AI systems and all situated within the digital mental landscape of Vision. In addition to Jarvis and Ultron, Vision has also involved EDITH, a name familiar to Spider-Man fans and whom many will likely associate once again with Tony Stark. The reason is simple: in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Tony Stark gifted Peter Parker a pair of glasses equipped with AI, and that AI was precisely EDITH. But is this the same artificial intelligence inserted into VisionQuest? The clarification came from Emily Hampshire, who portrays her.
VisionQuest, but EDITH is the same as Spider-Man: Far From Home?
VisionQuest has brought the Wanda Trilogy back to streaming on Disney+. After WandaVision and Agatha All Along, it falls to Vision to complete the circle by following the adventures of White Vision as he grapples with an identity crisis. After having acquired the memories of the other Vision, the protagonist is tormented because he cannot savor the emotions. In his eyes they are merely a set of data with which he cannot empathize. To help him navigate the world among humans, Vision has decided to also gather other AIs into his mind, including EDITH.
Voiced by Emily Hampshire, EDITH was drawn from exactly the same program used in Spider-Man: Far From Home and proves to be inclined toward the thrill of novelty. Among all the AIs present in her head, EDITH is the one who agrees to keep taking risks, to have fun, and to feel free. “Until now she has been only a voice inside a pair of glasses. The feeling was precisely this: if Tony Stark had bottled her essence, put you into a pair of glasses, called you EDITH — which stands for “Even Dead, I’m the Hero” [Even dead, I’m the hero], a detail decidedly from Tony Stark — and given you access to all the weapons while entrusting you to a teenager as the leader, who would you become once you were outside of there? And to me, this is exactly the Edith we meet in VisionQuest: a character who cannot wait to be liberated and to have fun. Only, her idea of fun is blowing things up. She is a figure who has a crazy desire to feel alive,” she told ComicBook.
All the AIs built by Tony Stark have personalities and distinct purposes, as also evident in VisionQuest. Jarvis is analytical and has always prevented Stark from pushing beyond limits, while Edith was created for Spider-Man and had the role of guiding Peter Parker. Each AI incorporated by Vision aims to help him understand the human experience and, at the same time, to understand himself better.
