With the return of Vision in streaming on Disney+, hope for Wanda Maximoff’s fate has been rekindled. A character deeply tied to Vision, she embarked on a dark path after the events of WandaVision, facing an apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after having tried in every way to locate her children. Agatha All Along and now VisionQuest have shown that Wanda was not crazy: Billy and Tommy are indeed alive, but simply without a compass. Several questions remain about Scarlet Witch, intensified even more after the first two episodes of VisionQuest. In fact, a new mysterious character introduced into the plot would have convinced fans that it is actually Wanda.
Attention: going forward we will refer to what happened in the first two episodes of VisionQuest, released on Disney+, so those who are not up to date with the schedule and do not want detailed spoilers should come back to read this article at a later time.
VisionQuest, and if that mysterious character answered another immense question about Wanda Maximoff?
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda Maximoff sacrifices herself to stop the Darkhold and is crushed by the weight of a mountain. Since then, the character has not been involved in the MCU and her death would have been deemed certain. Also in the first episode of VisionQuest, the same Vision states that Wanda would have been crushed by the weight of a mountain, confirming her death. A little later, during the episode, the same Paladin suggests another lead, explaining that every time words like “witch,” “curse,” or “spell” are spoken, something survives. Could this refer to Wanda? More likely Paladin is referring to Tommy, Vision’s son who survived the Westview collapse as well as his brother Billy, who reappeared in Agatha All Along.
Another hypothesis that has strengthened the idea that Wanda is alive concerns the new mysterious character introduced in VisionQuest: who is the Client, the one who commissioned Vision’s capture from Paladin? The character spoke, albeit altering their voice, during a phone call with Paladin, but it is not clear who hides behind that assignment or why they want Vision, alive. Moreover, it seems they have at their disposal advanced technologies or extraordinary abilities that allow them to overcome various blocks or cause significant technical problems.
It is natural for fans to hope that it is Wanda. This would not only mean she survived the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it would make the hunt for Vision a bit softer. However Paladin is a ruthless mercenary and proves it at the end of the second episode, when he wounds Vision with adamantium bullets. Wanda, in any case, is not the only possible identity. Behind the Client could simply be the SWORD who would like to get their hands back on their own creation or some other Avenger. Or, again, there could be a completely new character, who could connect to other MCU projects? For now these remain hypotheses.
