The return of 9-1-1 and its spin-off 9-1-1: Nashville is shaping up to be decidedly eventful. ABC has released the official trailers for the new seasons of the two series, which will both return on October 15, 2026 in the United States (Italy coming soon on Disney+). And from the clips it’s clear that, once again, first responders will have to deal with emergencies beyond the ordinary. If the tenth season of 9-1-1 brings a massive chasm at the heart of Los Angeles destined to turn into a volcano, in Nashville the threat will have a biblical origin. The protagonists of the spin-off will have to face a mysterious series of attacks inspired by the seven plagues of Egypt.
9-1-1 Season 10: A Volcanic Eruption Shakes Los Angeles
As is tradition, the new season of 9-1-1 will open with an emergency of truly epic scale. After earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, tornadoes and even a swarm of killer bees, this time the emergency operators will have to intervene following the opening of a gigantic chasm in downtown Los Angeles. Watch the trailer below.
But the situation is set to deteriorate quickly: the enormous opening will become the prelude to a volcanic eruption, with lava ready to flood the city. Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Tim Minear explained that the idea was conceived by the writers before a real chasm opened on Sunset Boulevard, noting that the real event had ended up making the coincidence even more intriguing. The production then kept the original idea, but elevated it to an even more extreme level: from the chasm they move to a volcanic eruption.
Not Just Disasters
The tenth season won’t simply be a string of spectacular disasters. According to Minear, the new episodes will continue the character evolutions started in the previous season. Athena Grant is now a detective, Buck is grappling with the prospect of fatherhood, May has started a new medical career, and Harry has become a firefighter. The tenth season will again feature Angela Bassett, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Corinne Massiah, Elijah M. Cooper and Gavin McHugh.
9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 and the Seven Plagues of Egypt
If Los Angeles has to deal with a volcano, Nashville faces a far more enigmatic threat. The trailer for the second season of 9-1-1: Nashville, which you see below, introduces a series of emergencies that seem to replicate the seven plagues of Egypt.
It all begins with a swarm of killer hornets that wreak havoc at an elegant gala. But what initially may appear to be an isolated incident soon proves to be part of something much larger. Throughout the trailer other unsettling situations appear: a basement filling with blood and people struck by terrible blisters on their skin. It’s Ryan who recognizes the possible connection to the biblical plagues, while the new homicide detective Rogue Kelly, played by Ryan Phillippe, hypothesizes that someone may have deliberately unleashed them on Nashville. The threat also seems to target the first responders themselves. Cammie also receives an intimidating call from an unknown, while Blythe ends up in the sight of the mysterious mastermind and is shown with yellowed eyes.
What’s New in 9-1-1: Nashville: A New Detective and a Possible Crossover
As anticipated, the second season of 9-1-1: Nashville will introduce Rogue Kelly, a homicide detective played by Ryan Phillippe. The character arrives in Nashville from New York and presents himself as an investigator with decidedly unconventional methods. Meanwhile, the new chapter will also continue exploring the consequences of the season-one finale on Don and Blythe’s marriage. The two seem still to be wrestling with a relationship deeply scarred by past events, while the situation could become even more complicated with the arrival of the new threat. But the novelties may not end there. The Nashville showrunner has indeed hinted at the plan to stage another big crossover involving some characters from the concluded 9-1-1: Lone Star. The potential meeting is expected to occur around the eighth or ninth episode of the second season.
