Apple TV continues to offer intriguing sci-fi adventures to its core audience, such as Silo, the dystopian TV series set in a world where Earth is no longer safe and the surviving humanity lives unknowingly underground, sheltered in a bunker 144 stories deep. The story, currently spanning three seasons with a fourth and final on the way in 2027, is drawn from the Silo Trilogy by Hugh Howey, and it was precisely Howey himself recently who suggested to fans what he regards as the “best TV series currently on air” on Apple TV. And no: it isn’t Silo!
Not just Silo: the author of the novels Hugh Howey hints to fans about another sci-fi series to catch up on Apple TV
Hugh Howey wisely turned to social media to point fans toward something to stream on Apple TV. Also to ease the wait for the fourth and final season of Silo, Howey confessed he thoroughly enjoyed Dark Matter, a 2024 sci-fi thriller released for streaming and returning with a second season that has already captivated audiences and critics.
Created by Blake Crouch and adapted from the eponymous novel published in 2016, Dark Matter tells the story of a Chicago physicist whose life is upended by the appearance of a variant of himself in his own reality. Jason Dessen lives with his wife Daniela and their son Charlie, and he often wondered what his life would have been like if he had made different choices. One day he is forced to confront that possibility, testing that theory in the worst possible manner. The cast includes Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, and Alice Braga.
Via Threads, the author of Silo urged fans to approach this story: “Come on, folks! It’s the best TV series currently on the air.” The second season, available for streaming from August 28, 2026 with one episode per week, consists of ten episodes and follows Jason and his wife Daniela as they deal with the consequences of the Multiverse while attempting to restore their balance. Jason, however, remains obsessed with the Box, and his wife Daniela continues to fall prey to his paranoia, risking to derail everything. Meanwhile, elsewhere, Amanda and Ryan join forces hoping to find their way home.
