A small town, a touch of fog, a few dry leaves, and a steaming mug: these are some of the essential elements for creating a perfect autumn mood. If you’re looking for a TV series to watch in these early days of autumn, below you’ll find a short list of titles — nostalgia and a pinch of unease are must-haves — that could be just right for you.
Autumn-perfect TV Series: Here Are the Ones We Recommend
- Twin Peaks
- Over the Garden Wall
- The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
- Only Murders in the Building
Twin Peaks
In the mountain town of Twin Peaks, surrounded by dense forests and veiled in thick fog, the lifeless body of the young, beautiful Laura Palmer is discovered. The brutal and mysterious crime shakes the residents and drives a special FBI agent, Dale Cooper, to arrive on the scene to investigate. This agent, already tormented by his own personal issues and employing a distinctive investigative method, will have to confront lies, deceit, and even supernatural presences to bring the truth to light. Twin Peaks, the cult TV series from 1990 created by David Lynch, features an impeccably autumnal aesthetic — wool sweaters, red leaves, and above all that enigmatic, slightly creepy atmosphere. 2 seasons and 48 episodes that you can catch on Paramount+.
Over the Garden Wall
Wirt and Greg are two stepbrothers who get lost in a mysterious forest known as the Unknown. The two find themselves on a surreal journey to find their way home, pursued by a frightening creature, the Beast, and aided by a talking cricket and an elderly lumberjack. Over the Garden Wall is a 2014 animated miniseries that presents itself visually as a genuine ode to autumn: here there are plenty of dry leaves and orange pumpkins, and the atmosphere is as enveloping as it is faintly unsettling. 1 season and 10 episodes that you can find on Prime Video.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
We’re in the grim Greendale, where Sabrina Spellman is about to turn sixteen, and that means she’ll have to make the most important choice of her life. Indeed, being a half-witch and half-human, Sabrina must decide whether to gain full access to the dark world of her family or stay within the mortal realm of her friends. Yet she doesn’t seem willing to give up either reality. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a 2018 TV series, and it’s ideal for autumn with its dark forests, vintage sweaters, ancient books, and above all its witchy atmosphere. 4 seasons and 36 episodes that you can find on Netflix.
Only Murders in the Building
Three strangers have in common only two things: they live in a luxurious Upper West Side building in New York and they are fans of true crime podcasts. For this reason, when one of the tenants is found dead, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel decide to investigate, convinced that it’s actually a murder. As they dig into the case, the neighbors decide to create their own podcast and uncover the building’s secrets. Only Murders in the Building is a 2021 TV series — and still in production — with a stellar cast: the leads are played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. Set in a breathtaking autumnal New York City, the dominant colors are warm orange and vivid yellow. 5 seasons and 50 episodes that you can watch on Disney+.
