When Your Parents Turn into Monsters: Family – Terrifying Trailer for the New Horror Featuring Ruth Wilson and Ben Chaplin

As those who follow us know, we are always glad to discover a new debut in horror cinema, hoping to find a talent for the genre on par with those of the past and with some of the contemporary ones. This time we talk about Family, a film written and directed by Benjamin Finkel, which after being presented at SXSW two years ago, finally debuts in North America in a limited run of cinemas and on major streaming platforms on September 25, raising hopes that we may get to see it as well. We do not know how old Finkel is now, but what is remarkable is that he began writing this story when he was 14, after the trauma of his father’s death from cancer. Before delving into the film’s plot, with adult roles portrayed by Ruth Wilson and Ben Chaplin, and the child’s part by Cameron Dawson Gray, we present the notable trailer for Family.

Family: the film’s plot

The story of Family, set in 2002, centers on themes of illness and grief, which explains its genesis. At its heart is a ten-year-old girl who begins to believe that her parents want to kill her. The young Johanna, observing her father’s decline due to illness, asks a benevolent spirit to help him. But things take a turn for the worse when a malevolent entity arrives, and her parents begin to transform into something monstrous. All of this unfolds along the thin line that divides fantasy and reality, reflecting a child’s deepest fears about those they hold dear.
