Who Is the Real Client in VisionQuest? The Seventh Episode Answer Isn’t What You Expected

The Identity of the Mysterious Client has been revealed, but rather than offering answers it has sparked only more questions. The seventh and penultimate episode of VisionQuest has put back into play the enigmatic figure who is tracking Vision, the same one who had hired Paladin to locate him and capture him. Over the course of the episodes, the Client has appeared briefly, proving to be everywhere, and in the seventh episode, he took several decisive steps, coming straight to Vision. But who is he really and what is his nature concealing? Warning: below we will refer to what happened in the seventh episode of VisionQuest, so we advise you to proceed with reading only if you are up to date with the schedule.

VisionQuest, twist in the penultimate episode: the true identity of the mysterious Client revealed (SPOILER)

Since the very first episode, fans have crafted a range of theories about the Client interested in Vision, even weighing Wanda or Mephisto as potential culprits. The seventh episode ultimately offered a partial answer regarding the real identity behind the threat, which turned out to be Ultron, or more precisely someone who resembles him. Throughout the seventh episode, the Client revealed himself to Vision and Jocasta, offering them something in exchange for their surrender. Both accepted and, at the end of the episode, the Client asked them to fulfill the remainder of the deal, capturing them. Only the final moments of the episode disclosed that behind the Client lies Ultron, or at least the one who lent human features to his avatar. Wearing period clothing, without a beard and with short hair, the Client appears proud, rifle in hand, as he watches Vision in chains. But what could all of this signify?

One or more answers will almost certainly arrive with the eighth and final episode, but it seems likely that the figure glimpsed in the closing moments of the seventh episode is not the same Ultron we already met in Avengers: Age of Ultron and in the early episodes of VisionQuest. In fact, Ultron himself reacts strongly to the revelation, suggesting that the Client does not match Ultron’s AI version, but rather could be his starting model, as likewise happened with Vision.

Another intriguing detail is the location where both Jocasta and Vision arrive: it would seem that the Client lives at the villa once owned by Phineas T. Horton, who gave Vision his human likeness; the villa appears at the start of the episode in a flashback from 1939. This implies that the Client is somehow a descendant of Horton and would have broader ties to the origins of the various AIs. After all, the Client also interacts with Jocasta, with whom he had a relationship and who were scientific partners. Their technology was, after all, sold to Stark Industries.

Meanwhile the AI Ultron has once again turned the tables, as just before the big revelation he decided to eliminate Friday, too close to unveiling the truth. This could hint that the AI version is in cahoots with the Client? But, above all, what could he possibly want from Vision?
