Eric McCormack, best known as Will Truman, born in 1963, was born in Toronto and grew up in Calgary. During high school he took part in school performances, where he realized that acting was his true vocation. He subsequently attended Ryerson University and, after three years, earned a place at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, where he stayed for five years, performing in numerous theatre productions.
He began appearing on screen toward the end of the 1980s, taking on small cameos or supporting roles in several TV series. In the early 1990s he also made his feature debut in the films The Lost World and Return to the Lost World; in 1992–93 he acted in the TV series Street Justice, and from 1994 to 1996 in Solitary Dove. But the real turning point arrived in 1998 with the TV series Will & Grace, where he played the lawyer Will Truman and where he appeared until 2006 and then from 2017 to 2020 in the revival.
In the years that followed, among numerous projects in both film and television, he took part in the TV series Perception (2012–15), Travelers (2016–18), Departure (2022), Slasher (2023) and Elsbeth (2025). More recently, however, we’ve seen him in the series Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue and The Hunting Party (where he plays the role of the serial killer) and in the films Love, Again and You’re Safe Now (filming taking place in Toronto and the actor playing the lead). Additionally, together with Sean Hayes he hosts a highly followed podcast titled Just Will & Grace. On the personal side, after his marriage to Janet Holden with whom he had a son, the actor is currently linked to Sue Conder.
