Let no one panic: the Wonka sequel is in no danger at all, at least according to a recent Warner Bros. press release. Less than twenty-four hours ago, fans of the world’s most delightful chocolatier tore their hair out because Simon Farnaby, the screenwriter of the 2023 original film, had suggested that he didn’t hold much hope of seeing a second installment. This is how Variety cited it, to which the outlet granted him an exclusive interview about his career.
Upon reading such words, people quickly spread them, and those who didn’t hesitate to stop this wave of tears and sorrow were Warner Bros. themselves, accompanied by the screenwriter. The studio has completely denied those words and not only that, but they assure that the sequel is moving full steam ahead in production, with the team responsible working very hard to bring the next chapter of Willy to life.
The chocolate is still alive
The very Farnaby has also come forward to clarify his comments and to correct what he meant by his words on social media. “Hello everyone, I just wanted to clear up some rumors about ‘Wonka 2’ following my Variety interview,” begins his message. “Some people have taken my statements a bit out of context. I did not say at all that ‘Wonka 2’ wouldn’t be made. The sequel has been planned from the start. Everyone is working very hard on it. Warner Bros. is committed to the project. There is a wonderful script written by Paul [King] and by me. Timothée [Chalamet] wants to do it (as I’ve already said!), it’s just a matter of coordinating schedules and ensuring it’s as fantastic as we know it can be, and these things take time. I’m very sorry for any confusion!”
With that, everything is said. The sequel is underway and it’s just a matter of fitting everyone’s schedules to start turning it into reality.
Time for the lead
Coordinating all the involved actors to have room for the film can be a bit tricky, because the good Timothée Chalamet is easily one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors today. Between ‘Dune 3’ this year and ‘Not Alone’ in 2027, the new Illumination movie, we know he doesn’t have a moment to spare.
