Like a zombie that suddenly bursts from the ground, the horror series Z Nation makes a surprise return to the realm of the living, ready to sow chaos once again with a sequel. Eight years after the conclusion of the post-apocalyptic dramedy born from the success of The Walking Dead, the production studio The Asylum announces the greenlight for Z Nation: Ressurection, a new series set in the same haunted world as the original.
Z Nation: Ressurection, the first details of the new TV series
Z Nation: Ressurection will pick up the tale a few years after the events of Z Nation, which concluded in 2018 after five seasons. The world faces a new undead threat that risks wiping out the remaining human population. At the heart of the story is a new generation of survivors, while some of the most beloved characters from the original series — including Warren (Kellita Smith), Murphy (Keith Allan), Doc (Russell Hodgkinson) and Citizen Z (DJ Qualls) — are in negotiations to join in supporting roles.
Ressurection will be the second spin-off of Z Nation, following the prequel Black Summer, proposed by Netflix for two seasons from 2019 to 2021. “Z Nation has never really disappeared,” said The Asylum founder David Rimawi. “Fans have kept this world alive and for years we’ve heard the same question: ‘When will you bring it back to life?’. Z Nation: Ressurection gives us the opportunity to return to the characters and the universe so loved by the audience, while steering the story toward broader, darker and even more unpredictable horizons.”
Thomas P. Vitale, whose Vital Signs Entertainment will produce the 10 episodes ordered with The Asylum, added: “The original series managed to win over audiences because it was bold, entertaining and never afraid to surprise. Z Nation: Ressurection picks up all the elements that made the series unique, while expanding its mythology, raising the stakes and creating the opportunity to steer the franchise toward new and exciting directions.”
